PapaLink

PapaLink (previously OpenLink) is a physical interface and a communication protocol. It is used to deliver power and data connection in all DEV Joni devices.

Motivation

We believe that open-source devices must be accessible for everyone to stand the test of time. That is why we have created an incredible open-source connector that anyone could put together in their garage - provided with right tools and materials.

DATA. PapaLink does not reinvent the wheel - Instead it builds upon the industry-standard I2C protocol that offers relatively fast data transfer speeds, supports up to 127 devices, requires two data wires, and most importantly, it is supported by virtually all micro-controllers and single-board computers.

POWER. We selected 12 V as the reference for PapaLink. This voltage can power a wide range of devices, often directly. Our default connector and cables can handle up to 10 A continuous current safely.

Main features

  • Robust and Open-Source
  • Data connection and power | Address up to 127 devices per bus
  • Designed for 3D-printing and small scale manufacturing

Applications

  • Ideal for powering and controlling open-source based on micro-controllers and single-board-computers
  • Data acquisition and motor control
  • Small to medium sized data transfers (Not alone suitable for high-resolution images or videos)
